Before Energy Smart Petroleum Services Ltd, fleet fuel management across Nigeria operated in the dark.
For many organizations, fuel was one of the largest operational expenses — yet it was also one of the least controlled. Transport companies, logistics firms, construction businesses, manufacturers, and corporate fleet operators faced the same recurring problems every day:
Entire operations depended on fragmented systems, handwritten records, spreadsheets, and trust-based processes that could not scale with the realities of modern logistics.
Companies were losing millions of naira annually — not simply because fuel was expensive, but because they lacked operational intelligence. What should have been a controllable business system had become a blind spot. And across the industry, many believed this was simply “how things worked.”
We disagreed.
Energy Smart was built on a simple but powerful belief: Operational inefficiency is not inevitable. It is a systems problem.
Our founders recognized early that traditional fuel management methods were no longer sufficient for the complexity of modern fleet operations. Basic tracking systems could show movement, but they could not verify identity. Paper-based fuel controls could record transactions, but they could not prevent abuse. Standard payment systems could process fuel purchases, but they could not generate operational intelligence.
The industry did not need another isolated tool. It needed an ecosystem.
So we set out to engineer a platform that combined three critical layers into a unified operational infrastructure:
Corporate fuel cards designed specifically for enterprise operations — enabling secure, trackable, and policy-driven fuel transactions across distributed fleets.
A security layer that ensures transactions are tied to verified individuals, reducing fraud, impersonation, and unauthorized fueling activities.
Connected vehicle intelligence capable of delivering real-time visibility into fleet behavior, fuel usage, vehicle activity, and operational performance.
By bringing fintech, identity security, and IoT telematics together, Energy Smart transformed fuel management from a reactive accounting process into a real-time operational control system.
We were no longer simply helping companies buy fuel. We were helping them see their operations clearly.
One of the defining moments in our journey came when we partnered with organizations such as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to deploy over 10,000 biometric fuel cards.
This was more than a deployment milestone. It was proof that enterprise-grade fuel intelligence systems could scale within complex, high-volume operational environments across Nigeria.
The project demonstrated that secure identity-linked fueling systems were not theoretical concepts reserved for advanced global markets. They could work here — within the realities of African logistics, infrastructure, workforce dynamics, and operational demands.
It validated our belief that technology designed with local operational realities in mind can solve national-scale problems. And it marked the beginning of Energy Smart’s evolution from a fuel solutions provider into a logistics technology company.
As our platform evolved, so did our mission. We realized that fuel transactions alone were only one signal within a much larger operational system.
Behind every fueling event exists a network of moving variables: driver behavior, vehicle utilization, route efficiency, fleet productivity, operational compliance, asset health, cost leakage, and workforce accountability.
Modern logistics requires more than transactions. It requires intelligence.
